James Wightman is a registered psychologist who is passionate about supporting the mental health of teenagers and adults. Known for his warm, empathic style and collaborative approach, James creates a safe and supportive space where clients feel genuinely heard. He works alongside clients to develop practical, evidence-based strategies that foster resilience and meaningful change.

James has experience working across a range of clinical settings, including psychiatric hospitals, public health services, university clinics, and private practice. He has particular interest and experience in treating anxiety and mood disorders, substance use concerns, autism spectrum conditions, and difficulties related to emotional regulation, self-worth, and interpersonal relationships.

He completed a Master of Clinical Psychology, with Distinction, and holds a Bachelor of Psychology with First Class Honours. His postgraduate research focused on factors that influence outcomes in exposure-based therapy for anxiety disorders, highlighting the importance of tailoring treatment to the individual using the best available evidence.

James draws on a range of therapeutic modalities – including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing – to tailor therapy to meet the unique needs of each adolescent or adult he supports.
